Jane's first grade is studying money, economics and commerce. With that, they decided to have a Bake Sale on Thursday and Friday this week.
Jane baked cookies, brownies, and cupcakes for both days. She and her classmates made lots of signs and put them around the school to advertise.
Jane and I worked at the table on Friday during lunch. It was a big hit with everyone---even her brothers and sister took quarters each day to buy her goodies!
(I haven't had the heart to explain how much we spent on the baking and preparation to make the few dollars they got for new books for the school library---there is just some childhood innocence that must not be shattered!)

We've had a lot of celebrations in the last two weeks!
Here are pictures of the Pinecrest Elementary annual "Heart Hop" last Friday night. Everyone danced and ran around the gym..they all had a great time!
The annual "Daddy Daughter Dance" last Tuesday night. The Daddy in these pictures was the best sport EVER!!! The dance we ordered tickets for was on the same night as that fabulous Michigan/Michigan State basketball game. Ben and I watched the game while Pete and the girls went off dancing the chicken dance and the hokey pokey at the Hannah Center. They all had a wonderful time and Pete got home in time to see the final minutes of the game! What a great Dad.
Jane's first grade class read "Flat Stanley" and then each child cut out and sent a 'flat whomever' and sent it to someone far away. The idea is that the 'flat Jane' travels with the person it was sent to and sees their part of the world and then gets sent back home with stories of their adventures to share with the class. Jane sent her's to Rachel in South Korea. On Monday as I was taking Buffy to school the mail arrived and there was a big box from Rachel. Jane was watching and asking every day for her 'flat Jane', so I drove over to Pinecrest and interrupted her class to give her the box. She got to open the box and read the letter from Rachel and share some of the wonderful candy and treats Rachel sent. Her class loved looking at the pictures Rachel sent and the stories of 'flat Jane's" travels---including snowboarding! It was great!
Saturday was the last basketball clinic for Jane, Alex and Ben. The picture is of them with their basketballs and their certificates. They all enjoyed the last five Saturday sessions and they learned a lot. Ben is the most enthused player of all the kids --- he really loves the game and it is so much fun to watch him! Lilly and Aidan are playing on teams this winter. They practice twice a week and play on Saturdays. Last Saturday, Aidan's team won their first game this season---the Moms were all high-fiving each other at the end---not for the accomplishment but for the relief in not having to take defeated players home again! Lilly's team doesn't keep score yet so that is REALLY fun to watch---and they all seem to feel pretty good about the game when it's over!
Between swimming, dance, and basketball we are able to pass the time until Spring....just counting the days at this point!
